About The Position

EXP is seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) to lead civil drafting, design support, and technical coordination on municipal infrastructure and land development projects. This role is ideal for an experienced technologist with strong AutoCAD Civil 3D expertise, a solid understanding of Ontario design standards, and the ability to mentor junior staff. The Barrie and New Liskeard, ON offices are home to collaborative, multidisciplinary teams of civil and mechanical engineers, project managers, technologists, technicians, CAD specialists, surveyors, and support staff. Together, these teams deliver a diverse range of municipal infrastructure projects that help shape and strengthen communities across Central and Northern Ontario. Requirements

  • 3–4 years of experience in a similar consulting or municipal engineering role
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with OACETT membership
  • Advanced experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel) and MS Project
  • Experience in municipal infrastructure design, including: Roads and transportation corridors, Water and wastewater systems, Stormwater management
  • Knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS/OPSS), MTO, and municipal design standards
  • Field survey experience and ability to support construction administration
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Reliable transportation for travel to multiple site locations, including remote areas

Nice To Haves

  • RCSI or RCCA designation
  • Experience with Bentley InRoads
  • Familiarity with MTO highway design and structural design

Responsibilities

  • Lead the CAD and drafting strategy for projects, including standards, templates, and best practices
  • Delegate, mentor, and review work completed by intermediate and junior technologists
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, models, and technical documentation
  • Produce and review designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D (corridors, grading, pipe networks)
  • Utilize GIS, Bluebeam, and MicroStation (as required by client standards)
  • Apply Ontario design standards and guidelines, including OPSS, MTO, and municipal standards
  • Conduct constructability reviews and provide value engineering recommendations
  • Perform site inspections, quantity take offs, field measurements, and respond to RFIs
  • Support Contract Administration, including: Shop drawing reviews, Redlines and revisions, As-built drawing validation
  • Prepare cost estimates, quantities, and level of effort planning for drafting and design tasks
  • Track schedules, identify project risks and issues, and support mitigation strategies
  • Assist with tender packages, bid documents, and addenda
  • Act as a client liaison (with PM support), responding to comments and coordinating with utilities and approval agencies
  • Support public consultation materials, including exhibits and visual presentations, when required
  • Ensure designs comply with municipal bylaws, ESA requirements, environmental constraints, and accessibility standards
