Job Summary Battelle’s National Security Business Line is seeking a Natural or Applied Sciences Engineering Technician to support the technical team in the execution of Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Civil Engineering Materials and processes. This position supports the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) and is located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL. Technician Specialty Area Definitions: B = Natural Sciences, defined as those responsible for the study of living organisms and inanimate natural objects, including biochemistry, biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, microbiology, physiology, zoology, physics, chemistry, geology, materials and related subjects. C = Applied Sciences and Engineering, defined as those responsible for performing engineering duties by applying the principles and technology of chemistry, physics, biomechanics, human factors, infrastructure, or related subjects. Includes, but is not limited to, chemical, electrical, mechanical, biomedical, civil, human factors, and industrial engineers. The successful candidate will support efforts in existing and emerging technical areas related to U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering requirements. AFCEC conducts research and development that centers on the design, synthesis, characterization, and validation of civil engineering materials for various applications, including runway pavements, airfield damage repair, protective shelters, and fire- and heat-resistant structures. This work involves inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry; material science; microbiology; material characterization; engineering property analysis; organic chemical analysis; and additive manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in related field; 1 year of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
  • May be expected to pursue various certifications or continuing educational units, as needed.
  • Exhibits sufficient technical knowledge to perform routine assignments.
  • Demonstrated the ability to operate basic equipment and follow standard procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine specified analysis of data.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, and experience with MS Windows and Office
  • Proactive, self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Assists the scientists and engineers in biotechnology and environmental research and analysis including analysis of data collected.
  • Performs assignments of a routine degree of complexity by compiling test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
  • Assists the scientists and engineers in the interpretation of results and writing of sections of technical reports.
  • Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Helps the scientists and engineers compile technical specifications, analyze technical data, determine appropriate analysis methods, identify problems, and develop and implement solutions.
  • Helps the scientists and engineers develop test plans and experimentation protocols, technology assessment studies, and conduct technical projects.
  • Aids the scientists and engineers in the design, planning, and execution of experiments related to civil engineering materials that may include chemical analysis and synthesis, cementitious materials development and analysis, and similar projects.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in assessing problems and making recommendations.
