About The Position

The Progressive Companies Summer Internship Program is a paid, full-time experience designed to launch your career. You'll take part in hands-on client projects, sharpen your problem-solving and communication skills, and gain a front-row seat to the world of architecture, design, engineering, and construction. Working alongside experienced mentors in a multi-disciplinary firm setting, you'll learn the tools and methods that build a strong foundation for your future career. Along the way, you'll take part in project site visits, volunteer outings, networking opportunities, and education sessions - all designed to fuel your career and your curiosity. As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and other engineers to complete plan designs and production for civil engineering design projects. Typical work includes preparing design documents and permits for site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, traffic signal plans, and grading plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an EAC/ABET-accredited Civil or Environmental Engineering Bachelor’s degree program.
  • At least one year of undergraduate studies completed by Summer 2027.
  • Strong math, analytical, design and problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate well.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous AutoCAD Civil3D experience a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.
  • Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the project team to help meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely, accurate manner, monitoring progress against project scope and available resources.
  • Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Assist in preparing calculations and analyses for storm water management, sanitary sewer, water supply and distribution, roadways, and traffic studies.
  • Prepare Construction Permitting documents.
  • Compile crash data at intersections and prepare collision diagrams.
