As a result of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, limited-term civil engineering intern to perform construction inspection services on airport projects. This position will be based at our office in Chicago, IL and involves frequent travel to various construction project sites throughout the states of IL, WI, MI, and IN. The anticipated internship period is expected to begin May/June 2027 and end by August/September 2027.

Requirements

A valid driver’s license
Ability to pass background checks to gain access to airport sites
Frequent travel to construction project sites approximately 50%-80% of the time (may also include overnight stays)
Completed at least two semesters of college-level coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, enterprise systems, construction management or other related field from an accredited college or university by date of hire.

Nice To Haves

Construction field experience including observation and documentation
Previous internships involving construction, DOT projects, surveying and/or civil site inspections
Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D software
Understanding of basic grading and testing processes
Knowledge of airport planning and/or design
Survey tasks
Civil/survey engineering coursework

Responsibilities

Assisting engineers, technicians, and surveyors with civil airport projects including taxiways, runways, aprons, etc.
Performing measurements and quantity calculations and preparing pay estimates
Assisting with project report preparation
Performing field inspection, documentation, and survey work
Some technical research and writing
Other tasks as assigned.
