About The Position

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer to join their Water Team in Blacksburg, VA or Richmond, VA. This role supports water/wastewater infrastructure projects that help communities operate safely and sustainably. The Civil Engineer will work alongside experienced engineers to contribute to planning, design, and field efforts, building a strong foundation in water and wastewater infrastructure engineering. The position focuses on systems that deliver clean water, protect public health, and promote environmental sustainability, in a collaborative setting that values learning, innovation, and real-world impact.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
• No experience required
• Strong theoretical foundation and familiarity with engineering software, such as AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team

Nice To Haves

• prior internships and/or relevant coursework are preferred
• Participation in professional engineering society/organization preferred
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification a plus

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, such as treatment facilities, pipelines, pumping systems, and stormwater solutions
• Support senior engineers in preparing technical reports, contract documents, and cost estimates
• Perform calculations and design tasks using industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and best practices for sustainable water and wastewater systems
• Join field assignments with senior staff to gain hands-on experience in assessment, planning, and rehabilitation of water and wastewater infrastructure systems
