About The Position

EMH&T is seeking passionate and talented Civil Engineering students for paid summer 2026 internships in Columbus, Ohio. We’re looking for a motivated and curious student who thrives on solving problems and taking initiative. The ideal candidate is a proactive learner with a strong sense of responsibility, eager to contribute to real-world projects and collaborate with a diverse team. A positive attitude, adaptability, and communication skills are essential, along with a genuine interest in making a meaningful impact through engineering. Requirements

  • A current college student pursuing a technical or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without time limitations.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, including site development, grading, drainage, utilities, transportation, or other applicable coursework.
  • Interest in understanding client needs and the business side of engineering, not simply completing technical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Translate academic knowledge into practical engineering assignments with guidance from engineers and project managers.
  • Learn new engineering concepts, software, standards, and processes quickly.
  • Evaluate information, identify issues, and work through potential solutions.
  • Prepare calculations, plans, reports, data, or other project documents with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Develop proficiency with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or similar programs.
  • Follow technical instructions and established procedures while asking appropriate questions when clarification is needed.
  • Prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate questions, findings, and progress clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work effectively with engineers, designers, surveyors, project managers, and other team members.
  • Seek additional knowledge, take ownership of assignments, and look for opportunities to contribute.
  • Accept and apply feedback to improve the quality and efficiency of future work.
  • Follow through on assignments and commitments.
  • Understand the project lifecycle and how individual assignments contribute to the overall project.
  • Conduct research and gather information from plans, specifications, municipal resources, design standards, and other technical sources.
  • Understand client needs and the business side of engineering.
