About The Position

Join a team dedicated to safeguarding water resources across the region. As a Civil Engineer (Hydraulic) with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will help review projects, guide waterway management, and support statewide environmental programs. Your expertise will help ensure responsible development and strong environmental compliance. This role provides an impactful way to use engineering skills for public service. This position focuses on reviewing transportation and waterway projects while applying hydraulic and hydrologic engineering principles. The work supports statewide environmental programs and ensures compliance with important laws and regulations.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate Chapter 105 and 106 applications to ensure hydraulic designs meet regulatory standards
• Conduct site inspections of dams, water obstructions, and wetlands to determine compliance and conditions
• Provide guidance on laws and regulations related to stormwater, flood plain management, and water quality
• Review erosion and sedimentation control plans and assess technical project documentation
• Support enforcement decisions and collaborate with specialists to address violations
• Engage in watershed initiatives, public meetings, and pollution prevention activities
