About The Position

Burgess & Niple is hiring a Civil Engineer Co-op to gain practical experience in civil engineering consulting and infrastructure design. Working alongside early-career and experienced engineers, the co-op will develop technical skills and problem-solving abilities while contributing to projects intended to improve communities’ infrastructure, quality of life, safety, and sustainability. Under the direction of experienced technical staff, the co-op will learn design analysis for civil engineering projects serving local or state clients. Projects may involve roadway design, structural design and inspection, drainage design, and surveying. The role also supports project design, construction documentation, and field or construction-related services. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 30–40 hours per week. Housing and transportation to and from work are the co-op’s responsibility; parking is provided.

Requirements

Be a current undergraduate student in good academic standing pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
Have completed one year of coursework.
Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Ability to learn PDF markup and review tools such as Bluebeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat.
Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate, learn, and grow.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record; some travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

Direct experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation design software.

Responsibilities

Learn design analysis skills for a variety of civil engineering design projects for local or state clients under the direction of experienced technical staff.
Assist engineers with project design and drawings, including developing construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications using tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Assist with field work or construction-related services, including construction observation, shop drawing reviews, responses to requests for information, and field inspections as needed.
