About The Position

The Civil Design Engineer works on civil engineering for electric transmission poles and towers, including structure and foundation analysis and design, and reviewing and developing civil drawings. Under supervision, with latitude for independent action or decision, this entry-level individual contributor performs professional engineering work on the design of engineering jobs, projects, or parts of projects. The position is hybrid, working from a remote office and an assigned work location within PG&E’s service territory based on business needs. The role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. The stated hourly rate range is $46.94 to $78.14, subject to collectively bargained wage increases and other factors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering, or be graduating with a BS in civil or structural engineering by December 2026; alternatively, qualifying equivalent education and experience.
• Equivalent qualification may include education and design drafting experience totaling six years, or education and experience totaling four years including two years at PG&E as a Design Drafter or Senior Design Drafter.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License by the first day of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in structural engineering.
• MS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• EIT or PE License.
• Experience in PLS-TOWER.

Responsibilities

• Promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
• Prepare designs, calculations, drawings, layouts, and studies based on field inspections, preliminary sketches, diagrams, specifications, or instructions.
• Participate in field reviews and discuss project objectives with stakeholders in engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance.
• Check drawings, designs, and the work of others.
• Prepare construction drawings using MicroStation and PLS CADD.
• Use design tools for drawing development and structural analysis and design.
• Promote teamwork and innovation and adopt approaches that improve work efficiency and effectiveness.
• Travel 10% of the time.
