About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Civil Attorney to join its Legal Department. This role represents Fort Bend County in general civil matters, not litigation. The attorney will draft and review legal documents, conduct legal research, and issue legal opinions. The position also involves responding to Texas Public Information Act requests and participating in emergency management activities. Requirements

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence
  • Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court
  • 4 years job related experience required
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, elected officials and department directors/managers

Nice To Haves

  • Prior government experience
  • Real estate experience desirable

Responsibilities

  • Represents Fort Bend County in general civil matters/civil actions, not litigation, as required.
  • Drafts and reviews legal documents such as contracts, agreements and resolutions.
  • May participate in negotiations related to such documents.
  • Conducts legal research.
  • Drafts and reviews documents related to real estate transactions.
  • Issues legal opinions to elected officials and directors/managers.
  • Responds to requests for information under the Texas Public Information Act.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
