The Absence Management Program, housed within the Health and Safety Division of DHR, is the City’s central resource on leave and accommodation matters for our workforce of over 33,000. On a broad level, we provide critical training and support for Human Resources staff in all departments on improving their understanding of leaves and the accommodations process. The Absence Management Program helps departments understand the complex array of leaves available under local, state, and federal law, whether routine or more complex. At the individual employee level, we support reasonable accommodations for individual employees unable to continue with their current position after an injury or illness and for disabled employees under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through the 60 day job search.
