City Planner
About The Position
The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking two City Planners to assist with the expansion of its concession program. The Office of Cityscape & Franchises oversees programs related to streetscape elements and is experiencing growth in its Plaza and Open Street programs, as well as other concession opportunities. The City Planners will support the planning, coordination, and management of concessions, public toilet installations, and franchises. They will also assist with contract management, program development, database management, community outreach, presentations to the Public Design Commission and Community Boards, and coordination with various external entities and senior staff.
Requirements
- Serving permanently in the title of City Planner, OR reachable on the City Planner Civil Service List.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning.
- OR a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above.
- Must have a baccalaureate degree.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and management of concessions, including those supporting the citywide Plaza and Open Streets programs.
- Support the planning, coordination, and management of public toilet installations.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and management of franchises.
- Support the unit Director with contract management.
- Support the unit Director with program management.
- Coordinate and develop the unit’s tracking database project.
- Manage electronic files and databases.
- Conduct community outreach.
- Prepare and submit materials to the Public Design Commission.
- Make presentations to Community Boards.
- Communicate and coordinate with various Business Improvement Districts, other not-for-profit and private entities, and senior level staff.
