City Planner
About The Position
The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking two City Planners to assist with the expansion of its concession program within the Office of Cityscape & Franchises. This office oversees programs related to streetscape elements, including the growing Plaza and Open Street programs, and other concession opportunities. The City Planners will be involved in the planning, coordination, and management of concessions, public toilet installations, and franchises. They will also support the unit director with contract management, program development, database management, community outreach, presentations to the Public Design Commission and Community Boards, and coordination with various external entities and senior staff. Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills are required.
Requirements
- Must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner, or reachable on the City Planner Civil Service List.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning.
- Alternatively, a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
- Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience.
- All candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
Nice To Haves
- One additional year of professional experience for Assignment Level III.
- Two additional years of professional experience for Assignment Level IV.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and management of concessions, including those supporting the citywide Plaza and Open Streets programs.
- Manage public toilet installations and franchises.
- Support the unit director with contract management and program management.
- Coordinate and develop the unit’s tracking database project.
- Manage electronic files and databases.
- Conduct community outreach and make presentations to Community Boards.
- Prepare submissions to the Public Design Commission.
- Communicate and coordinate with Business Improvement Districts, other not-for-profit and private entities, and senior level staff.
