About The Position

Performs a variety of circulation tasks related to the operation of the Library on a flexible work schedule including days, nights and weekends for up to 20 hours a week. Must be a self-motivated individual who is computer literate and able to multi-task in an occasionally hectic environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic library materials, policies and procedures as found in the library personnel manual and the Eastpointe Memorial Library employee manual.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Proficient in using a computer and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously; ability and desire to serve the public of all ages.
  • Physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to stand and walk for an entire work shift.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with employees and to work as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and push a loaded book truck weighing 120 pounds.
  • The employee is required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear and view written documents.
  • The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools to repair library material.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must lift and/or remove materials of light to heavy weight (up to 25 pounds) and must push/pull heavy objects (up to 120 pounds).

Responsibilities

  • Works at the circulation desk.
  • Circulates and renews library materials.
  • Empties book drop.
  • Registers patrons and collects fines and fees.
  • Assists with deliveries and interlibrary loan transactions.
  • Refers informational questions as well as questions on the use of library materials and equipment to reference librarians.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries about library programs and services.
  • Shelves library materials.
  • Mends and processes library materials.
  • Assists reference librarian in closing the library.
  • Performs other library tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
