About The Position

The Circulating RN- ASC PRN is responsible for ensuring safe patient care within the peri-operative unit. This role involves maintaining a safe environment through proper patient identification, time-outs, and resource management. The RN serves as a resource to teammates, support services, and physicians, assisting in maintaining the sterile field and ensuring it is not compromised during procedures. They also promote the growth of others through precepting and mentoring, acting as a clinical role model and providing feedback. The role includes keeping the surgical area clean and organized, assisting with room turnover, and maintaining supply inventory. The RN prepares patients for procedures, educates them beforehand, and participates in patient handoffs. They are involved in improving OR metrics and processes, developing solutions and action plans to meet departmental goals. The RN assesses patient conditions before surgery, collaborates with physicians on care plans, and handles other related responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • A current, valid RN license in state of practice or equivalent per state regulations.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current competencies for job position.
  • Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interactions relative to the specific age of a patient.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disease processes and perioperative care.
  • Knowledge of hospital organization, universal precautions, and maintenance of a safe environment.
  • Skills validation/certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of a perioperative teammate, including maintaining annual skill maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing and the skill of listening.
  • Skills required to provide excellent customer service not only to our patients, but physicians, visitors, and other health care teammates, promoting a positive work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long arduous work hours.
  • Ability to work in an environment that frequently produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple work priorities and support to teammates.
  • Acknowledgement and adherence to HOPCo Mission, Vision and Values.
  • OSHA Requirements and training to include Annual Safety Training.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Three years previous experience in acute OR setting, with at least 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedic specialty area is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe patient care within the peri-op unit, including proper patient identification, time outs, resources, and supplies.
  • Serve as a resource to teammates, support services, and physicians, and assist in maintaining the sterile field.
  • Promote and support the growth of others through precepting, mentoring, and orientation.
  • Keep the surgical area clean and organized, and remove instruments and sponges as they are used.
  • Assist in room turnover process and ensure the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient.
  • Maintain environment and supply inventory, including procurement of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare the patient for the procedure and the operating room, including patient education and participation in patient handoff.
  • Help ensure OR metrics, process improvement, and work processes are met by providing solutions and action plans.
  • Assess the patient’s condition before a surgical procedure and work with a physician to develop the care plan.
  • Assume other related responsibilities as required and assigned.
