About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Construction Manager, the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Resident Inspector performs technical construction inspection for Capital Improvement Projects in the following areas: structures, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street, signals, lighting, sidewalks and driveways, to ensure compliance with the Contract Documents, including all State and Federal Standards. The CIP Resident Inspector is also responsible for many facets of contract administration, including the measurement and tracking of all constructed items in accordance with the contract documents. On occasion, the CIP Resident Inspector may provide inspection services on Development related projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Five (5) years’ experience in construction and/or construction inspection
  • Missouri Department of Natural Resources Class D Water or Wastewater or DS I, II, or III License required within one year of hire
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 certification required within one year of hire
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to use basic survey equipment or successful completion of a college-level basic surveying class.
  • Basic computer skills in word procession, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively in oral and written form with contractor, other City departments, government agencies, and public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction management and administration is preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCad helpful but not required

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical construction inspection for Capital Improvement Projects in structures, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street, signals, lighting, sidewalks and driveways.
  • Ensures compliance with Contract Documents, including all State and Federal Standards.
  • Responsible for contract administration, including measurement and tracking of constructed items.
  • May provide inspection services on Development related projects.
  • Interpret pertinent Federal, State and Local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Maintain detailed inspection and pay quantity diaries meeting the requirement detailed in the States LPA Manual.
  • Read and interpret complex construction plans.
  • Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and detect deviations from plans, regulations and standard construction practices.
  • Enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tact.
  • May be required to testify and prepare evidence in municipal and district courts.
