About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Christmas Assistant to support Corps Officers with the Holiday Campaigns. This role involves assisting with the smooth and effective running of Christmas Campaigns, including volunteer coordination, toy drives, and food drives. The assistant will work with various community groups to solicit donations and coordinate their collection. This position may also involve recruiting and coordinating volunteers for events like the Red Kettle Campaign, assisting Advisory Board members with site selection for donation collection, and supporting fundraising events. Additionally, the role includes assisting at holiday events such as the annual Thanksgiving Dinner, and potentially data entry, money counting, and scheduling for the Red Kettle Campaign. Sorting of food and toys may also be required. The ideal candidate will possess leadership and people skills, be organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. A valid California Driver's License is preferred, and if driving is required, successful completion of a Decision Driving Safety Test and adherence to The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program are necessary. Familiarity with integrated database applications and the ability to learn new software are also important.

Requirements

• At least 21 years old, if Driving for TSA
• If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
• Be neatly groomed.
• Be friendly, respectful, honest, and punctual.
• Minimum High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English.
• Leadership and people skills necessary to coordinate a variety of programs
• Organized and able to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously
• Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training

Nice To Haves

• Maintain a valid California Driver’s License
• Bilingual in English/Spanish
• Understand the mission and purpose of the Christmas Kettle Program
• Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
• Must possess good relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Corps Officer(s) in the smooth and effective running of the Christmas Campaigns (ie. Volunteers, Toy Drives and Food Drives)
• Work with schools, businesses, churches, service clubs and individuals to solicit donated food, toys and financial donations
• Coordinate drop-off of barrels and collection of donations with the Outreach Services Workers and other volunteer drivers
• May be required to serve as recruit and coordinate volunteers for holiday events including the Red Kettle Campaign
• May be required to work with Advisory Board members in location and securing public sites for the collection of food, toys or stocking stuffers, in the support and promotion of special fundraising events
• Assist at all holiday events, ie. annual Thanksgiving Dinner
• May be required to assist the Corps Officer with data entry, money counting and scheduling for the Red Kettle Campaign
• May be required to assist in the sorting of food and toys
