About The Position

The Chipper & Grinder grinds castings according to instructions, prepares grinding wheels, selects appropriate tools, and identifies equipment malfunctions and defective or scrap castings. The role uses hand grinders, chippers, lifting devices, and required respiratory protection in an industrial manufacturing environment. It may include helping new or transferred employees and requires mandatory overtime as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds periodically.
Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 10 hours per day.
Ability to wear a respirator or air-supplied hood and other applicable PPE.
Ability to move within the office and manufacturing complex.
Ability to write by hand and/or type.
Ability to communicate through speech and hearing by phone, radio, and in person.
Participation in medical examinations required by law or federal regulations.
Visual acuity for close-detail work and computer use.

Experience in an industrial environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Grind castings according to instructions.
Change and dress grinding wheels.
Select the proper tools for each application.
Identify equipment malfunctions.
Identify scrap or defective castings and report them to a supervisor or management.
Operate hoists and other lifting devices.
Occasionally help or assist new or transferred employees.
Exercise proper care of tools and equipment.
Work mandatory overtime as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
