About The Position

This position requires a Chinese Linguist to provide translation, interpretation, and analysis of oral and written material, including classified reports, data, briefings, and conversations. The role involves providing written and oral translations, assessments, transcriptions, cultural advisement, and media analysis to ensure accurate and timely development of actionable data and products. The linguist will be responsible for translating source texts while maintaining the original meaning and intent. As an interpreter, the individual must comprehend and speak both source language (Chinese) and English, possess cultural context familiarity, and knowledge of specialized terminology. Research in native languages and writing comprehensive information papers may also be required. Linguists may undergo annual evaluations and retesting for service extension.

Requirements

  • Current/Active Public trust clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Studies, Anthropology, Communication or a related field from an accredited and reputable institution and 8 years of relevant experience. An additional 4 years experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience working in support of U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. government agencies.
  • Minimum of 3/3/3 scores or higher in testing scores both in English and Modern Standard Chinese within the last 5 years.
  • Objective, Unbiased, & Logical cultural advisement.
  • Ability to follow orderly and sequential systematic procedures and guidelines.
  • Excellent listening skills with ability to pay attention to minute details.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Information Operations/ PSYOP/ MISO units OR, experience working with U.S. Special Operations Forces or other Military forces in East Asia/PACOM area of operations.
  • Language ability in another required language; Cantonese at the same levels.

Responsibilities

  • Translate, interpret and analyze oral and written material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations.
  • Provide translation in written and/or oral form.
  • Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis services.
  • Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, with the meaning and intent of the original text.
  • Read and comprehend the languages.
  • Write comprehensibly in one of the source languages.
  • Choose the equivalent expression in the Source language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language.
  • Comprehend both the source language and English as spoken and written.
  • Speak both of these languages.

  • Have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages.
  • Have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields.
  • Research in source (Native) languages and write a comprehensive command level information paper.
  • Complete an annual evaluation and retesting process to determine eligibility for possible extension of services.
  • Provide foreign language interpretation, translation, transliteration & transcription, document exploitation (DOCEX) services.
  • Provide written and verbal translation of various types of media from target language to source language while maintaining congruity in judgment.
  • Provide presentations and working with small and large groups.
  • Conduct in-depth cultural understanding of customs, symbolism, mannerisms, traditions of various ethnic groups residing throughout East Asia and the PACOM area of operations.
  • Work with Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
