About The Position

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a ministry of service dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. As one of the largest providers of social services in the region, VOA-NCNN operates over 40 programs including housing, employment services, substance abuse, and recovery services. The organization's mission is to change individual lives, instill hope, increase self-worth, and facilitate independence through quality housing, employment, and related supportive services. VOA-NCNN is a Certified Great Place to Work and is recruiting for a full-time Children/Youth Case Manager for the Family Program at the Mather Community Campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of successful experience in the delivery of human services or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and ability.
  • Knowledge of social casework objectives, principles, and methods.
  • Knowledge of employment readiness, permanent/supportive housing, public welfare laws, and the functions of public welfare agencies.
  • Knowledge of principles of community organization and resources.
  • Understanding of individual and group behavior and the effects of social and economic forces.
  • Proficiency in principles and techniques of interviewing.
  • Computer skills/applications proficiency.
  • Knowledge of principles of cultural competency and diversity.
  • Understanding of challenges concerning dysfunctional families, domestic violence, issues unique to women and families, disadvantaged and underserved populations, people of color, persons with disabilities, individuals with chemical issues, and the general homeless population.
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in the application of casework methods and practices.
  • Ability to provide program and casework consultation to other staff members.
  • Ability to interpret public welfare programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, the public, and employees.
  • Demonstrated ability in record keeping.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must pass all required background clearances.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, analyzing information, and making reasonable decisions.
  • Skilled in Microsoft 365 computer applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English, legible handwriting, skills in record-keeping.
  • Ability to de-escalate crises and assist residents and staff in emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develops individualized service plans with short- and long-term goals, including support for housing.
  • Evaluates and revises individualized service plans as needed.
  • Facilitates employment-focused groups.
  • Educates participants on living skills, parenting, budgeting, health and hygiene, housing, and substance abuse.
  • Develops and maintains lists of community resources and refers participants.
  • Establishes individualized budgets with participants and assists with monitoring savings and expenditures.
  • Conducts in-home visits and provides support services.
  • Documents all contact with participants, including screenings, assessments, service plans, and evaluations.
  • Maintains case notes in the Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Coordinates referrals with other community agencies.
  • Attends case conferencing, meetings, and training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
