About The Position

The Children’s Ministry Summer Intern serves alongside the Children’s Ministry Director and team to support Sunday morning programming and planning weekday programming for the fall for children (birth through fifth grade). A large part of this position will also be to help with planning and implementing VBS in July. This role provides hands-on ministry experience through assisting with program implementation, engaging with children and families, supporting volunteers, and helping create a welcoming and Christ-centered environment. This intern position will also take part in weekly discipleship meetings with senior leaders at the Chapel. The internship is designed to develop ministry skills, leadership ability, and a deeper understanding of children’s discipleship within a local church context.

  • Profess and demonstrate a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of Williamsburg Community Chapel.
  • Have a passion for working with children and supporting their spiritual growth and discipleship.
  • Be relational, dependable, teachable, and eager to learn in a ministry environment.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with children, parents, staff, and volunteers.
  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to serve in a variety of roles.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children (church, camp, school, or childcare setting) is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of Sunday morning Children’s Ministry programming.
  • Help set up, facilitate, and clean up classrooms and ministry spaces.
  • Support planning weekday children’s programming for the fall and special summer events such as the Chapel Family Block Party, weekly Picnics, and VBS.
  • Assist with curriculum preparation and activity planning as directed.
  • Build positive, Christ-centered relationships with children and their families.
  • Welcome and engage children to create a safe, fun, and nurturing environment.
  • Support children of varying needs and backgrounds with care and attentiveness.
  • Assist in supporting and encouraging volunteers and childcare staff.
  • Help with communication and coordination needs for ministry activities.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and devotional times as scheduled.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks such as organizing supplies, preparing materials, and maintaining classroom readiness.
  • Help track attendance and support ministry systems as needed.
  • Support preparation for special events, including Vacation Bible School, family events, or other summer programming.
  • Adhere to all Child Protection Policies and safety procedures.
  • Participate in required training related to child safety and ministry practices.
  • Serve in other duties as assigned by the Children’s Ministry Director.
  • Represent the Children’s Ministry in a manner consistent with the Chapel’s mission and values.
