About The Position

The Childcare Coordinator manages, directs, and coordinates before and after school care (Health & Wellness) and day camp operations for the branch. This role ensures the continuation of high-quality programs, works to establish new program activities, and expands the community reach of childcare programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans. The coordinator is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and directing personnel and volunteers. They will review and evaluate staff performance with the Senior Program Director, develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals, and manage budgets related to the position, ensuring programs operate within budget and program fees are collected. Additionally, this role supports and budgets for healthy eating, assures compliance with state and local regulations, ensures YMCA program standards and safety procedures are met, and maintains proper documentation for licensing divisions. The coordinator will develop and implement activity structure and content for Child Watch and Mom’s Day Out, ensure the upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment, and develop and maintain relationships with relevant agencies and organizations. They will respond to inquiries and complaints, provide staff leadership for fundraising campaigns, maintain records, review participant information, organize special events, assist with YMCA fundraising activities, attend meetings, and assist in marketing and compiling program statistics. The role also involves monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, preventing and reacting to incidents of child abuse, and assisting in member retention and satisfaction through customer service. A positive and cheerful attitude is expected, along with performing all other assigned duties. This organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will fully cooperate with authorities in investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent sound working knowledge of child development principles, professional training working with school age kids
  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens; annual state licensing training.
  • Must be able to fulfill criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to supervise multiple part-time staff

Responsibilities

  • Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Maintains proper documentation for Bright From the Start, the State of Georgia’s Licensing division (I.e. CACFP Food Program, Licensing, CAPS, daily attendance records, transportation and medication logs.
  • Develop and implement activity structure and content for Child Watch and Mom’s Day Out.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Reviews payments, receipts, late fees, immunization forms and registrations for all participants.
  • Organizes and works with special events for parents.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.
  • Assists with and attends Program Committee and Child Care Cabinet meetings.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of child abuse and reacting properly in the event they occur.
  • Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  • Assist in the annual Priceless Gifts fundraising program for the YMCA of Coastal Georgia
  • Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the program site.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
