About The Position

The Springfield YMCA is hiring in Child Watch. You will be responsible for providing a safe and caring environment for children while in YMCA care. You will engage with parents and children in a positive way to further the mission of our YMCA. At the Y, we believe that children learn best through play and socialization with others. If you are ready to make a positive impact on our youth, join our team! The shift that we need to fill at this time is Monday through Saturday from 8:30am-12:30pm.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • At least 3 months OJT or 1-2 years working with small children.
  • Must like working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A commitment to continuous quality program improvements.
  • Certifications: American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of required trainings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directly supervising the children in their care while parents are utilizing the facility.
  • Create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of the child/children in their care.
  • Directly interacting with Child/Children.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Child Watch room is kept clean.
  • Ensuring that proper sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed at all times.
  • Maintaining proper registration cards on all children utilizing the service.
  • Using positive guidance techniques that incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when working with children, families and coworkers.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with families.
  • Attending all trainings and staff meetings as required by department.
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and attitude that reflects the YMCA at all times, upholding the policies outlined in the YMCA Personnel Policy handbook and Child Care Parent Handbook.
