Child Watch Associate - Morning Weekday

About The Position

Under the supervision of the Branch Director, Associate Branch Director, or Child Watch Supervisor, and consistent with the YMCA's Christian mission, the Child Watch Associate provides a safe, secure, and fun environment that supports the quality, growth, and retention of Child Watch participants. The associate also assists with special events and other activities held on various occasions.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Obtain Adult and Pediatric First Aid/AED/CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
Knowledge and experience caring for and feeding infants, toddlers, and young children.
Ability and willingness to change diapers using techniques that reduce exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and the risk of infection.
Maturity and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to approach participants non-threateningly to manage behavior and defuse potentially volatile situations.
Positive attitude and desire to support the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA.
Ability to carry, sit, see, hear, speak, run, crouch, lift 25 pounds, and walk.

Responsibilities

Nurture children through purposeful interaction that builds belonging and relationships among children and within families.
Attend to each child's needs, including diaper changes.
Ensure the safety of all children in the program.
Supervise children and activities, including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
Follow applicable procedures and standards.
Cultivate positive relationships and communicate effectively with parents.
Maintain the program site and equipment.
Facilitate a controlled environment with age-appropriate activities.
Follow policies regarding boundaries and appropriate relationships with consumers.
Attend required abuse risk management training.
Follow procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behavior and policy violations by employees, volunteers, and consumers.
Immediately report suspicions or allegations of abuse to a supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
