About The Position

The Child Protection division of Health and Human Services is seeking to hire a Social Worker or Senior Social Worker who will work as a Child Services Worker (CSW) within a Child Protection Ongoing Case Management unit. CSWs work to ensure that the physical, educational, medical, cultural, mental health, and general well-being needs of children in out-of-home placement are met while the family is receiving child protection services. A particular emphasis will be on securing out-of-home placements for children who are ordered into out-of-home placement and are in need of foster care and continuous placement. Additional expectations include working effectively in teams with other social workers, foster parents, therapists, Guardians ad Litem, medical personnel, and other professionals.

Requirements

  • For hire as a Social Worker: Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent field.
  • Licensure as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County drivers permit, and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings.
  • For hire as a Social Worker, Senior: Master's degree or higher in social work or close related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles of social welfare.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
  • Licensure as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County drivers permit, and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Team with Child Protection Social Workers (CPSW) to support placements and to address administrative tasks.
  • Interview, assess, and perform case evaluations of clients to determine individual needs and establish appropriate treatment/service goals.
  • Attend court hearings and discussions with County Attorneys and CPSWs regarding case updates.
  • Make field visits to clients' homes in collaboration with the CPSW.
  • Provide support to children/youth on assigned cases and ensure their physical, educational, medical, cultural, and mental health needs are met while they are in out-of-home placement care and provide transportation when needed.
  • Design and partner with CPSWs on Out-of-Home Placement Plans addressing the specific needs of the child or youth.
  • Make referrals to appropriate community resources and arrange for services while interpreting social and emotional factors to other's involved in treatment of children/youth.
  • Team with CPSWs and internal/external stakeholders to increase child well-being, safety, and permanency.
  • Carry a caseload involving more complex social problems and social treatment plans.
  • Provide consultation and participate in workgroups, committees, and other initiatives as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Assist in the development and implementation of trainings and best practices related to the program area.
  • Assist with the onboarding, mentoring, and on the job training of new staff.
  • Supervise interns.
