About The Position

This is a part-time position responsible for teaching age-appropriate lessons to elementary school students, providing a supervised and structured environment, and promoting safety and sound decision-making. The role involves direct instruction, guidance, and acting as a positive role model. Additionally, the position requires directing traffic to ensure pedestrian and bike rider safety. The role is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to rigorous background checks and drug/alcohol testing due to working in high-security areas governed by CJIS Security Policy. This position is part of a Career Development Plan offering potential progression and salary incentives.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in education or a related field, or a high school diploma or GED and training and experience in public speaking, teaching or program planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to write and implement lesson plans.
• Excellent group management and organizational skills.
• Experience in working with elementary school age children.
• Good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
• Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
• Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident eligible for naturalization.

Responsibilities

• Teach 32 different age-appropriate Success Through Education and Proactive Policing (STEPP) lessons.
• Provide a supervised and structured environment for Chesterfield County public elementary school students.
• Provide instruction to students through lecture style teaching, audio and visual aids, props and handout materials.
• Provide guidance and act as a positive role model.
• Teach respect and encourage children to make sound decisions concerning their safety and well-being.
• Direct traffic daily in and out of school areas, focusing on the safety of pedestrians and bike riders.
• Perform other work as required.
• Receive specialized training annually along with on-the-job training.
