About The Position

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC is seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible Child Minding Lead to support our Adult Gym program at Giant's Head Elementary School. This role provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children while their parents or guardians participate in YMCA programming. The Child Minding Lead is responsible for supervising and engaging children in age-appropriate activities during scheduled Adult Gym sessions. This position helps create a positive experience for participating families and supports the YMCA's commitment to building healthy, connected communities.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and positive attitude.
  • Enthusiasm for creating fun and engaging experiences for children.
  • Commitment to YMCA values and mission.
  • Successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Ability to commit to scheduled program dates and times.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive supervision for children during Adult Gym programming.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Lead and support age-appropriate games, crafts, and activities.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and program participants.
  • Ensure YMCA policies and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to children's needs and communicate concerns to YMCA staff.
  • Assist with setting up and tidying activity spaces before and after programs.
  • Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
