About The Position

The Child Minding Volunteer is responsible for supervising and engaging children in age-appropriate activities during scheduled Adult Gym sessions. This volunteer role helps create a positive experience for participating families and supports the YMCA's commitment to building healthy, connected communities. This volunteer position provides families with an opportunity to participate in YMCA wellness programming while knowing their children are being supervised in a safe and supportive environment. By creating positive experiences for children, volunteers help strengthen community connections and support healthy lifestyles for the whole family.

Requirements

  • Interest in working with children and supporting family programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and positive attitude.
  • Enthusiasm for creating fun and engaging experiences for children.
  • Commitment to YMCA values and mission.
  • Successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Ability to commit to scheduled program dates and times.

  • Experience working with children is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive supervision for children during Adult Gym programming.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Lead and support age-appropriate games, crafts, and activities.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and fellow volunteers.
  • Ensure YMCA policies and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to children's needs and communicate concerns to YMCA staff.
  • Assist with setting up and tidying activity spaces before and after programs.
  • Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
