About The Position

The Wake County Child Care Subsidy Program provides financial assistance to parents for their child care needs. The child care subsidy is based on an assessment of need, income and family size. Each county receives an annual allocation of state and federal funds used for subsidized child care services for its residents. Wake County also receives funding from the Wake County Smart Start Program. We provide information to the community on choosing and using quality child care. As a result of receiving quality child care through the assistance of the Child Care Subsidy Program, children are better prepared for school success. We are currently recruiting for a Child Care Subsidy Eligibility Caseworker to join our team! The purpose of the Child Care Subsidy Eligibility Caseworker is to determine initial and ongoing eligibility for childcare subsidy to assist families in paying for childcare expenses. Parents who receive Child Care Subsidy are in need for the protection, care or developmental experiences of their child/children and fall in one of the following need categories: Work First, Employment, Education/Training, Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Developmental Needs, temporary homelessness or Child Welfare Services. The Child Care Subsidy Eligibility Caseworker is responsible for working with families and caregivers and providing information and assistance on needs, programs and services, and serving as a liaison between the program and the community. The strong candidate will be familiar with the Child Care Subsidy program and proficient in NCFast. Wake County Services actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours. In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Two years of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Expertise in handling frequent client contact, conveying information clearly and concisely in writing and verbally and maintaining positive relationships with clients through excellent interviewing and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of Child Care Subsidy Program policy and general knowledge of Human Services/Social Services programs
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in an environment with frequent changes, working in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills and the aptitude to learn new software and web-based systems including NCFAST
  • Ability to build and maintain ongoing, collaborative working relationships with coworkers to achieve the goals of the work unit
  • Expertise in interpreting policy and translate in layman terms to the public
  • Ability to observe, monitor, collect, and record data
  • Ability to assess the accuracy, validity and integrity of data
  • Expertise in developing and maintaining effective relationships with others in order to encourage and support open communication and teamwork

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with the Child Care Subsidy program
  • Proficient in NCFast
  • Experience with accurately determining eligibility for Child Care Subsidy
  • Economic Benefit Technician experience in a Child Care Subsidy program
  • ESS case worker experience
  • Proficient in NC FAST and OnBase or proficient with a document management software system
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
