About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing professional-level work assisting individuals with child care needs through telephone or face-to-face interviews and counseling. The working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. This position exercises no supervision. This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position, therefore, is subject to at-will employment status, and is unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. The work location will vary based on departmental and program needs at one of four operating locations: Pre-K 4 SA North Education Center, Pre-K 4 SA West Education Center, Pre-K 4 SA East Education Center, or Pre-K 4 SA South Education Center. The assigned shift will vary with departmental and program needs, with possible hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing personal computers and associated MS Windows-based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel) and federal/state designed programs in the completion of assignments.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain and submit accurate records within the required time periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials needed for projects.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred coursework in Business, Child Development, or related field.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) background check.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Prior professional experience working in a school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts preliminary and ongoing eligibility intakes/re-certifications for parents applying for federally funded Child Care Services Program.
  • Performs calculations to determine parents' financial obligations for child care services.
  • Monitors adjustments and payments.
  • Maintains case records both electronically and hardcopy.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Coordinates between vendor and parent to complete child care arrangements.
  • Conducts research and justification for various accounting adjustments, to include computer entry.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
