The Manager, Child Care is responsible for assisting the Regional Manager, Child Care with the overall operations of the YMCA child care centre, providing quality experiences for children. The Manager gives leadership and supervision to YMCA staff and volunteers and is accountable for the overall operation of the child care centre, ensuring adherence to the mission, vision and values of the Y, curriculum standards, legislative requirements, and program budgets.

Requirements

  • ECE diploma or CECE recognized equivalency
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario
  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous experience with diverse populations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Knowledge of budgeting
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to move around frequently, including bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification
  • Up-to-date immunizations
  • Tuberculosis test
  • Valid permit to work in Canada
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

Responsibilities

  • Working with, leading, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
  • Orienting, training, mentoring, and supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Maintaining active and effective communication and information networks within the centre.
  • Ensuring program plans and centre environments address each child’s identified needs, stage of development, and interests.
  • Maintaining all administrative and financial systems of the centre, ensuring required reports are accurate and complete to deadlines as established.
  • Maintaining children’s records and staff personnel files.
  • Ensuring that parent/teacher interviews are conducted as needed.
  • Ensuring the regular implementation of program quality evaluation tools.
  • Ensuring that payroll, vacation, and illness reports are submitted in accordance to the required timeline.
