About The Position

Under the direction of an administrator, the Child Care Assistant will assist in the care, supervision and guidance of children in the playroom and on the playground. This is a part-time position, working 18 hours per week, 11 months/184 work days per year. The recruitment process will consist of an oral technical interview.

Communicate effectively with fellow employees and children.
Relate positively to children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
Oversee a group of children in playroom and playground activities.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Maintain classroom in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
Demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
Demonstrate empathy, friendliness, patience and responsibility.
Be participative and energetic.
Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and some experience in the care of children in an organized setting.
Must have or obtain within six months of employment valid CPR and/or American Red Cross First Aid Certificate, as well as meeting requirements to keep certificate(s) current.

Nice To Haves

Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish preferred.
Some positions in this class may be required to utilize a second designated language.

Responsibilities

Assist in the care and guidance of children while their parents attend adult school classes.
Prepare playroom for children.
Set out toys and monitor playroom activities.
Oversee children while at play, providing the stimulation of toys, games, music, arts, crafts and other activities; oversee rest periods.
Organize and oversee students in playground activities.
Ensure that children wash their hands after using the restroom facilities.
Maintain daily sign in/sign out log.
Maintain safe play conditions.
Alert teacher and parents in emergency situations as appropriate.
Maintain playroom in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Assist children in reaching drinking fountain as needed.
Attend meetings and workshops as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
