About The Position

The Child Care Aide position at the Orleans County YMCA is responsible for providing direction for the program and classroom, and implementing program curriculum. The role focuses on delivering a quality experience to children and parents that embodies the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. This position involves supervising children, planning and implementing activities, maintaining positive relationships with parents, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children.

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
  • School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.
  • At least 18 years of age to work in Prime Time and Child watch.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Additional educational requirements may be necessary per the appropriate regulating agency.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (provided at no cost to you by GLOW YMCA and held at the Genesee County YMCA) within 60 days of hire date.
  • Must complete employee sexual harassment and child abuse prevention trainings upon hire for which you will be paid 3.5 hours.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Must be available 2:00pm until 6:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • Must be available to work select days out of school calendar for example staff meetings, trainings, special events, and schools out camp days.

Responsibilities

  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Engages parents as volunteers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Promotes the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and emotional well-being of the children.
  • Works with the staff team to plan and implement activities.
  • Provides direct leadership to the assigned group(s) and maintains constant visual contact with all assigned children.
  • Participates in daily activities and aids the children in completing tasks, including land and water-based activities.
  • Assists in assessing child abilities and developmental stages.
  • Builds enthusiasm for activities and programs.
  • Completes required documentation regarding attendance, health and wellness, sign-in and sign-out, and other items as assigned.
  • Notifies parents if children are not in attendance.
  • Keeps the program areas neat and organized.
  • Follows all safety procedures.
  • Follows all regulating agency and YMCA child care policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Maintains friendly, positive and professional relationships with children, parents, school & day care partners and other YMCA staff.
  • Projects a positive image of the YMCA and the Day Care program.
  • Follows work site requirements regarding punctuality, appropriate dress, staff meeting attendance, etc.
  • Carries out tasks as assigned by the Site or Program Director.
  • Assists in program and YMCA recruitment and special events.
  • Works YMCA Camp Days and alternate program locations as scheduled.
