Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) to work with adolescents who have complex eating disorders and other comorbid mental illnesses. The role involves working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team, families, and community agencies to help patients learn about their illness, enhance independence and coping skills, and develop tools for community integration through peer interaction, group treatment, and individual therapy. The CYC will provide evaluation, assessment, and therapeutic interventions using a strength-based model and modern mental health techniques within a psychiatric setting. This role fosters a culture of trust, leadership, dependability, and accountability by providing a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment for adolescents. The CYC will assist in creating management programs for individuals and groups to stabilize psychiatric disorders, provide life skills training, support co-workers in various therapeutic settings, use techniques to diffuse extreme behaviors, manage psychiatric crises, and assess mental status. Some travel may be required.
