About The Position

Relationships Australia South Australia (RASA) is a not-for-profit, secular, community organisation, helping people to overcome difficulties and bring about positive change in their lives. We offer services for families, couples and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The Child and Family (CaF) Counsellor provides therapeutic counselling and family support that strengthens the safety, wellbeing and healthy development of children and young people. Working with children and young people aged 0–17, parents, carers and whole families, the role supports families experiencing a broad range of complex relationship, parenting and social challenges. The CaF Counsellor delivers child-centred, trauma-informed and developmentally responsive interventions to address issues including family and domestic violence, mental health concerns, substance misuse, problem gambling, childhood trauma, abuse and neglect. The role focuses on strengthening parenting and carer capacity, promoting safe and nurturing relationships, enhancing children's developmental outcomes, and supporting families to build resilience and sustain positive change.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification (AQF level 7) in social work, psychology, counselling or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children, young people, parents and carers and families in a therapeutic context.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those effected by Family and Domestic Violence including children and those using violence in relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Post graduate (AQF level 9) qualification in social work, psychology, counselling or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating therapeutic groups with children, young people and parents and carers in Family and Domestic Violence behaviour change, parenting skills and developing social and emotional skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with stakeholders around a child such as schools

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapeutic counselling and family support that strengthens the safety, wellbeing and healthy development of children and young people.
