About The Position

The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a strategic, business-minded technology leader to serve as its next Chief Technology Officer (CTO). As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CTO is responsible for defining and executing Scripps' enterprise technology strategy. As Scripps evolves to meet the demands of a rapidly changing media landscape, technology is no longer a supporting function—it is central to our strategy, growth, and competitive future. This role ensures technology is not only an operational capability, but a strategic driver of business growth, innovation, transformation, and long-term competitive advantage. The CTO partners closely with senior leaders across the company to align technology investments with business priorities, shape enterprise strategy, and build the technology capabilities needed for Scripps' future. This leader brings a strong enterprise mindset, balancing long-term strategic thinking with disciplined execution while developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including leading large, complex technology organizations.
  • Media, streaming, digital, or adjacent technology industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success developing enterprise technology strategy and leading large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing multiple technology functions, including product, engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and data.
  • Experience developing technology investment strategies, organizational capability, and high-performing leadership teams.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and Boards of Directors on strategic technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leaders to help shape enterprise strategy and identify opportunities where technology can accelerate business growth, improve competitiveness, create new capabilities, and deliver long-term value.
  • Develop and communicate a multi-year technology strategy and establish enterprise priorities that balance innovation, operational excellence, financial discipline, and risk management.
  • Provide strategic counsel on emerging technologies, AI, digital transformation, and industry trends to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead the enterprise technology strategy, roadmap, and operating model across technology functions, including product, software engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, broadcast engineering, enterprise systems, and data.
  • Establish a disciplined build, buy, and partner framework to guide technology investment decisions.
  • Drive technology-enabled business innovation, including identifying and incubating new revenue opportunities, digital products, and platforms that expand Scripps' competitive moat.
  • Lead technology-enabled transformation initiatives that improve business performance, operational efficiency, and customer experiences.
  • Define and execute the company's AI and innovation strategy, ensuring investments deliver measurable business value.
  • Build and lead a high-performing technology organization through talent development, succession planning, and organizational design.
  • Identify and develop the capabilities needed to support the company's long-term strategy.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board, translating complex technology opportunities into actionable business strategies.
  • Build strong partnerships across the organization to align technology priorities with business objectives.
  • Represent technology with the Board, strategic partners, key vendors, and the broader technology community as appropriate.
