About The Position

We are presently looking for a Chief Revenue Office (CRO) The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) is an executive, hands-on leadership role responsible for driving strategy and growth of sponsorship sales, advertising, and underwriting revenue across the entire COURIER network. This role is designed for a proven, experienced sales leader who can help design, build and execute a modern, diversified revenue strategy and sales team for a fast-growing media network. This leader will serve as a player-coach, personally leading high-value deals while managing a nimble, high-performing sales team, which will have potential to expand as outcomes are achieved. This leader will think creatively and strategically to build comprehensive, multi-platform deal packages that leverage COURIER’s full suite of ad inventory across the national and state newsrooms, including email newsletters, social distribution, podcasts, events, and bespoke sponsorship products. This position is ideal for someone who believes in COURIER’s mission, thrives in start-up environments, identifies and seizes on opportunities in all spaces, values execution over theory, and is excited to roll up their sleeves, sell alongside their team, and is motivated by building something new, enduring, and truly impactful. The CRO will report directly to the CEO.

Requirements

  • A track record of revenue generation and sales management within the media, entertainment, or digital content industries
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to beat goals and close high-impact distribution deals and sponsorship agreements
  • Possess strong leadership skills, with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams
  • Be an innovative thinker who can align content, sales, and revenue strategies effectively
  • Exhibit excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills
  • Excel in high pressure and fast-growth/ start-up environments

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a sales-first revenue strategy across direct sponsorships, brand partnerships, underwriting and events, in collaboration with leadership to achieve the organization’s quarterly and annual revenue targets
  • Identify new categories, verticals, partners, and products that are aligned with COURIER’s mission and audience to drive new revenue opportunities
  • Translate organizational goals into clear revenue priorities, SMART goals, and executable sales plans
  • Personally lead and close high-value partnership deals with premium and trusted brands (e.g., consumer brands, purpose-driven companies, and national partners) across our national and state newsrooms
  • Own a meaningful individual book of business in addition driving team goals
  • Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with decision-makers, serving as a trusted partner from pitch through renewal.
  • Represent COURIER externally with credibility, confidence, and fluency in both mission and commercial value.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a sales team, setting a high bar for performance, accountability, and follow-through
  • Responsible for developing the process and execution of sales material and collateral specific to revenue deals and opportunities
  • Build and refine repeatable sales processes, pipelines, and closing strategies.
  • Hire and scale the team over time as revenue targets and proof points are met
  • Actively sell alongside the team—modeling best-in-class sales behavior, deal strategy, and relationship management
  • Work closely with editorial, marketing, finance, and operations teams to ensure sold programs and products are high-quality, impactful, and deliver on partner expectations
  • Collaborate with leadership to shape offerings that balance revenue growth with editorial integrity and audience trust
  • Own pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, and revenue reporting
  • Establish and track KPIs related to bookings, close rates, deal size, renewals, and pipeline health.
  • Provide clear, regular updates to executive leadership on progress, risks, and opportunities.
