About The Position

The Buffalo Urban League's mission is to help African Americans and others in underserved communities achieve their highest true social parity, economic self-reliance, power, and civil rights. The League promotes economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health, and quality of life. The incumbent will report to the President & Chief Executive Officer and will be a member of the executive management team. The incumbent has overall responsibility for all program staff and their supervisors.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Health, Social Work, Human Services Management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years progressive management experience in a non-profit service environment.
  • Prior experience managing large teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social services programs and the business acumen to effectively manage across the diverse programs.
  • Analytical, with demonstrated experience in program evaluation and application of outcome measurements, and best practices.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with experience with building programs and collaborations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with programmatic, administrative and finance staff and colleagues and provide effective external presentations and persuade both internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with donors, board members, staff, and funders.
  • Demonstrated integrity and accountability.
  • Player/coach, effective at delegation, with the ability to motivate and build relationships and partnerships at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Experience with government contracts, contract management and compliance
  • Must be a proven strategic thinker, problem solver, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • On a day-to-day basis lead manages and coordinate the work of multiple program areas and ensures successful cross-coordination between program areas and with other departments.
  • Builds strategic partnerships and develops special projects and initiatives with external partners.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships and relationships with other nonprofits, government agencies and community organizations to expand resources, raise funding and increase the public’s awareness of the services provided by Buffalo Urban League.
  • Develops and implements procedures for monitoring the quality and quantity of the services being delivered for adherence to outputs, outcomes, goals, and to meet grant or contract deliverables.
  • Monitors the scope of service requirements of multiple contracts and ensures compliance with targets and expected deliverables.
  • Assists in grant/contract identification and grant writing.
  • Prepares grant reports (finance and otherwise) for review by CEO, Finance and funders so that timely and accurate reporting occurs.
  • Attracts, retains, trains, supervises, coaches, and develops their staff.
  • Develops and monitors the program budget.
  • Monitors budget, and program expenditures.
  • Meets regularly with Finance and direct reports to review contract expenditures and ensure appropriate allocation of resources.
  • Provides information to the finance department that is necessary for ensuring timely billing of all contracts/grants.
  • In concert with the board, CEO, and other stakeholders develops, implements and executes the strategic plan.
