About The Position

LifePoint Health is hiring a Chief Operations Officer (COO) to oversee Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia. Under general direction, the COO has line responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation, and coordination of assigned hospital departments, ensuring their operations and results align with the hospital’s overall needs. In the absence of the hospital CEO, or as assigned, the COO represents the CEO in coordinating portions of the hospital organization and acts within the objectives established by hospital practice and policy.

Requirements

Master’s degree in MHA, MBA, or another relevant field.
Two years as a COO at an equivalent or larger facility, or, for an internal employee, two years of experience as an officer or assistant administrator.

Responsibilities

Direct the operations of assigned departments and appraise the performance of department heads, with authority to hire and fire subject to the CEO’s veto.
Communicate routinely with the CEO about policy recommendations and courses of action related to the efficient operation of assigned departments.
Implement new policies, disseminate information in accordance with administrative directives, and recommend improvements to facilities in assigned areas, including construction, renovation, and equipment purchases.
Promote department-head involvement in budget preparation and educate department heads about budgeting, forecasting, and planning.
Advise the CEO on budget, cost, and financial matters, and help department heads establish performance measures, improve productivity and quality, control costs, and maximize facility utilization.
Advise the CEO when executive action is needed to achieve operational goals and plan departmental activities in coordination with other hospital departments.
Attend medical staff and committee meetings as assigned or requested, inform the CEO of proceedings, and recommend action as necessary.
Represent the hospital through membership in related professional associations.
