Chief of Staff

NiftBoston, MA
Hybrid

About The Position

Nift is growing rapidly and is profitable, scaling to become a major source of new-customer acquisition. This role is designed to address the challenge of the CEO spending too much time on operations, allowing them to focus on product and growth. The Chief of Staff will act as the operating engine of the company, taking operational responsibilities off the CEO's plate and managing them effectively. This involves identifying and fixing issues proactively, building systems to address them, and driving them to completion. The role is focused on execution and action rather than strategy or administrative tasks, suitable for an operator who is patient with people but impatient about progress, and thrives in ambiguous situations where they can identify and solve problems without explicit ownership.

Requirements

  • 6–10+ years in high-trust operating or leadership roles, such as Chief of Staff, Business Operations, Strategy & Operations, startup founder, or a functional leader in a small company.
  • A track record of installing an operating cadence, OKRs, executive meetings, and board prep that you built, not just inherited.
  • Proven cross-functional delivery without direct reports or budget authority, ideally managing several initiatives simultaneously.
  • Comfort in a fast-changing, high-growth, occasionally messy environment.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for an AI-forward, build-first culture.
  • Ability to default to action and prove a better way by running it.
  • Ability to own things without being asked, identify gaps, form a point of view, and close them.
  • Ability to move people through respect, earning trust and demonstrating empathy and decisiveness.
  • Radical transparency, raising hard issues early and directly.
  • Ability to find the five things that matter quickly and discern signals from noise.
  • Ability to operate without ego or politics and remain calm and confident in high-stakes, fast-moving situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scaling internal operations in a mid-sized, fast-growing startup.
  • Exposure to investor relations, board operations, or cross-functional program management.

Responsibilities

  • Own the company's operating rhythm, including the OKR process, company meetings, management meetings, and board and investor preparation, focusing on substance and follow-through on decisions.
  • Identify and build systems for missing operational processes that slow down the company, prioritizing those that have the most business impact.
  • Drive critical cross-functional initiatives that do not fit neatly into one team, achieving milestones and outcomes through credibility and cooperation rather than authority.
  • Own the flow of internal and external communication from the CEO's office, ensuring a consistent narrative across the company, board, investors, and press.
  • Act as the CEO's filter and early-warning system, surfacing emerging issues tactfully, managing noise, and ensuring no important matters are overlooked.
  • Help the executive team operate with shared clarity, urgency, and accountability.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Comprehensive benefits (401(k), Medical / Dental / Vision)
  • Equity potential for all full-time employees
  • Flexible remote work
  • Unlimited Responsible PTO
