About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a visionary academic pediatric neurologist to serve as the Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology. This is a significant opportunity to lead the rebuilding and strategic expansion of pediatric neuroscience across South Carolina. MUSC is committed to growing the division, with approved plans for 13 pediatric neurologist faculty positions and six advanced practice provider positions. The new Chief will play a crucial role in recruiting faculty, innovating clinical programs, strengthening education and research, and improving statewide access to care. The position offers the chance to shape pediatric neuroscience for decades to come within an established children's hospital setting. MUSC is located in Charleston, South Carolina, a city known for its high quality of life, culture, and amenities.

Requirements

  • Nationally respected pediatric neurologist with demonstrated success in academic leadership.
  • Board certification in Pediatric Neurology.
  • Eligibility for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Qualifications for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level preferred, commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
  • Documented success in faculty recruitment, mentorship, program development, and collaborative multidisciplinary care.
  • Commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, scholarship, innovation, and service.
  • Ability to develop a compelling strategic vision and work collaboratively with institutional leaders to execute that vision.
  • Record of achievement in research, scholarship, education, or clinical program development appropriate to an academic leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology and provide strategic, clinical, academic, and administrative leadership for the Division.
  • Develop and execute a bold vision for pediatric neuroscience in partnership with the Department of Pediatrics, MUSC Children’s Health, the College of Medicine, and key neuroscience stakeholders.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain outstanding faculty and advanced practice providers across pediatric neurology and aligned subspecialty areas.
  • Expand clinical programs, strengthen inpatient and ambulatory care, and build innovative models that improve access for children throughout South Carolina.
  • Advance the educational mission, including support for the Child Neurology Residency Program and mentorship of trainees and junior faculty.
  • Collaborate across specialties, including Neurosurgery, Neuropsychology, Developmental Pediatrics, PM&R, Neurocritical Care, and other partners.
  • Support scholarship, research, innovation, and program development consistent with the mission of a leading academic children’s hospital.
  • Partner closely with Department, Hospital, and College leadership to expand clinical programs, strengthen education and research, improve statewide access, and advance a multidisciplinary pediatric neuroscience strategy.
