About The Position

The Chief of Imaging Services is envisioned as the senior enterprise leader accountable for the clinical, operational, financial, and workforce performance of diagnostic imaging services across all sites and modalities. This role is intended to provide unified leadership and strategic direction for Diagnostic Imaging services, establish system-wide governance and clear decision rights for strategy, standards, and capital, standardize performance management and reduce unwarranted variation while preserving necessary local customization, and strengthen quality, safety, access, and patient experience through common clinical and operational capabilities. The role will also align enabling functions such as analytics, informatics/PACS, workforce development, and vendor/JV management to support scale. Key performance outcomes include improved patient access, reduced bottlenecks, optimized capacity/utilization, standardized enterprise performance management, strengthened compliance and accreditation readiness, and a cohesive capital and equipment lifecycle strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, radiologic sciences, or related field (or equivalent)
  • Progressive leadership experience in diagnostic imaging operations across multiple sites/modalities
  • Demonstrated capability in enterprise performance management, change leadership, and standardization
  • Experience with regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements for imaging services
  • Proven financial acumen including capital planning, equipment lifecycle, and vendor/contract management
  • Ability to lead in a matrixed environment; effective partnering with physician leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, MS) or equivalent advanced training
  • Experience leading enterprise imaging informatics initiatives (PACS/VNA, image exchange, workflow optimization)
  • Experience with JV partnerships, outsourced imaging arrangements, and professional services alignment
  • Lean/Six Sigma or comparable performance improvement training and demonstrated results

Responsibilities

  • Provide unified leadership and strategic direction for Diagnostic Imaging services.
  • Establish system-wide governance and clear decision rights for strategy, standards, and capital.
  • Standardize performance management and reduce unwarranted variation while preserving necessary local customization.
  • Strengthen quality, safety, access, and patient experience through common clinical and operational capabilities.
  • Align enabling functions (analytics, informatics/PACS, workforce development, vendor/JV management) to support scale.
  • Optimize imaging operations including capacity, throughput, and utilization.
  • Oversee continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage system-wide committees and operating rhythm, and define decision rights for strategy, capital, and standards.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including accreditation, licensure/certification, ordering-provider compliance, and imaging-specific monitoring.
  • Foster alignment with radiologist practices, ensure professional services sustainability, and monitor performance.
  • Develop and execute equipment strategy/standards, replacement planning, and vendor performance/contract leverage.
  • Lead PACS/VNA modernization, interoperability/image sharing, and Epic imaging workflow optimization.
  • Implement standardized operational and financial KPIs, dashboards, and decision support.
  • Develop workforce strategies for retention/engagement, pipelines, career pathways, and staffing models.
  • Implement centralized/standardized scheduling approaches and workflow standards.
  • Manage JV partnerships, including performance management, operating rhythm, and growth opportunities.
