About The Position

Stanford University’s Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine seeks a leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. The appointment will be as Professor or Associate Professor in the Clinician Educator Line or University Medical Line. Academic rank and line will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Chief will oversee strategic clinical, operational, educational, and faculty-development activities, advancing patient care, fostering innovation, and mentoring future leaders. The role calls for a collaborative leader who engages effectively with other services and departments, advocates for the division at hospital and institutional levels, and acts as a visible bridge among the division, department, hospital, and surgical partners. The Chief will maintain an active clinical presence in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology and model safe, efficient, patient-centered care. The position also entails stewardship of the division’s operational structure across operating room and critical care environments, while partnering with and preserving successful divisional structures. The Chief will support faculty leadership, education, quality, and research pathways; champion fellowship and residency teaching; foster faculty scholarship; and facilitate research through mentorship, navigation of research operations, and stewardship of division-level research resources. Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. The University values an open and respectful academic environment and provides reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities. To apply, candidates should upload a CV and brief statement of interest. The expected base pay range is $486,000–$496,000 for Associate Professor and $504,000–$525,000 for Professor.
