About The Position

Palo Verde Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking an experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to join our Team! The CNO is an integral part of the Sr. Leadership Team and manages the facility's Nursing Department. The CNO develops department goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures, and organizes the department in accordance with administrative guidelines. The CNO functions in an advisory capacity to administration in evaluating proposed procedural changes as they relate to patient care. This position directs the implementation and ensures compliance with the Standard of Nursing Practice that promotes optimum health care delivery. This position will oversee the activities of infection control and staff education. Palo Verde Behavioral Health Hospital provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PVBH is an 84-bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PVBH has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in Tucson, AZ, at the base of the Catalina Foothills, PVBH is minutes to Saguaro National Park and the University of Arizona.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree (or clinical supervision required)
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in a hospital setting (preferrably Behavioral Health)
  • Management/leadership experience
  • Licensure by the Arizona Board of Registered Nursing required
  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee nursing personnel, including nurse managers and staff, and provide guidance to ensure effective operations across departments
  • Establish and maintain high standards of patient care, develop policies and protocols, and monitor quality and safety outcomes
  • Participate in organizational strategy, develop nursing initiatives, and implement projects to improve patient care and operational efficiency
  • Manage budgets, allocate resources, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and coordinate with other healthcare professionals
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate nursing staff, promote professional development, and maintain staff engagement and competency
  • Develop department goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures, and organize the department in accordance with administrative guidelines.
  • Function in an advisory capacity to administration in evaluating proposed procedural changes as they relate to patient care.
  • Direct the implementation and ensure compliance with the Standard of Nursing Practice that promotes optimum health care delivery.
  • Oversee the activities of infection control and staff education.
