About The Position

The Chief Medical Officer serves as a key member of the Hospital senior leadership team who has administrative responsibility for the practice of medicine at the Hospital. The CMO demonstrates administrative responsibility for the quality and safety of care delivery, effective coordination of clinical care, and the efficient utilization of resources. The CMO participates with hospital leaders in formulating strategic planning and accomplishing institutional goals and objectives including creating alignment with the medical staff in accordance with medical staff bylaws, Hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing medicine.
  • Active State Medical License.

  • Physician Executive advanced degree is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction for the Hospital’s Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Program.
  • Ensure the Patient Satisfaction and HCAHPS activities are prioritized and acted upon in order to ensure continuous improvement and that problems are systematically addressed.
  • Provide leadership in the development and growth of hospital clinical programs including the identification and recruitment of physicians to support those programs.
  • Provide direction, consultation and assistance to clinical departments and Hospital administrators in evaluating and implementing new clinical programs, or changes in existing programs.
  • Evaluate management of professional medical activities and resolve medical/administrative issues.
  • Intervene constructively when quality of care is questioned or when clinical issues of significance arise within all clinical services.
  • Work with and support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance role regarding the medical staff and patient care.
  • Support the organization, development, monitoring and administration of the medical staff.
  • Maintain close relationships with the medical staff and its representatives.
  • Oversee the credentialing, quality assurance and medical management activities of the Hospital, including clinical evaluation.
  • Work with the Medical Executive Committee in conjunction with other members of Hospital administration in appointing committees, and in developing, maintaining and monitoring policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and clinical services to ensure that a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to patient care is continuously provided.
  • Participate in the continuing development, implementation, and utilization of clinical information technology.
  • Establish and monitor the extensive procedures required by The Joint Commission and the State Department of Health to document the professional qualifications and performance of the medical staff, and the quality of patient care in all clinical services.
  • Participate in facilities planning.
