About The Position

The Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Kentucky Region serves as the senior physician executive for Deaconess Health System, providing strategic clinical leadership across the region. Reporting directly to regional leadership, the CMO partners closely with physicians, operational leaders, and medical staff to advance quality, patient safety, physician engagement, and clinical excellence. This executive leader serves as the primary liaison between hospital administration and the medical staff while helping shape the future of healthcare delivery through innovation, collaboration, and population health initiatives. The CMO will play a key role in driving consistent clinical outcomes, strengthening physician relationships, and advancing system-wide strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Board Certified M.D. or D.O. required
  • Minimum three years of progressive physician leadership experience required
  • Clinical practice experience required
  • Strong clinical credibility and physician relationship-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational and healthcare business acumen
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to influence, inspire, and lead organizational change
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust quickly
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between medical staff and hospital leadership
  • Lead system-wide quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Support physician engagement, collaboration, and medical staff development
  • Oversee credentialing, peer review, and utilization management programs
  • Partner with operational and physician leaders to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience
  • Guide strategic planning for clinical programs, service lines, and population health initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards
  • Support medical staff leadership, committees, and governance activities
  • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture focused on continuous improvement
  • Represent the organization within professional and community partnerships
