About The Position

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the senior clinical leader responsible for overseeing the quality and safety of patient care across the healthcare organization. This role involves strategic planning and execution to align clinical services with organizational goals, ensuring optimal health outcomes and operational efficiency. The CMO leads governance and policy development to uphold healthcare quality standards and patient safety protocols. They collaborate with executive leadership to integrate clinical information systems, including electronic medical records and health information exchanges, to enhance care coordination and data-driven decision-making. Ultimately, the CMO drives innovation in clinical services development while managing healthcare economics, financing, and payment systems to sustain the organization's financial health and mission delivery.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a healthcare organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare quality, patient safety, and clinical governance.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and execution in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare economics, financing, and payment systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in healthcare administration, public health, or business (e.g., MHA, MPH, MBA).
  • Experience with clinical information systems implementation, including electronic medical records and health information exchanges.
  • Track record of successful clinical services development and operational strategy leadership.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and accreditation standards such as The Joint Commission.
  • Experience working in diverse healthcare settings across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and direction for all clinical operations, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of clinical services to meet evolving patient and community needs.
  • Collaborate with finance and operational teams to optimize healthcare economics, including reimbursement models and payment systems.
  • Oversee the integration and utilization of clinical information systems such as electronic medical records and health information exchanges to support clinical decision-making and data analytics.
  • Serve as a key liaison between medical staff, administration, and external stakeholders to foster a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Monitor clinical performance metrics and lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
