The Chief Medical Officer provides medical staff oversight by coordinating Medical Staff peer review, PI and RM activities. This role serves as a liaison with the hospital PI Director and Risk Manager, and coordinates administrative support for clinical chiefs and departments for PI activities. The CMO interprets Joint Commission, DPH, and Board of Registration PI requirements. This position supports the Chief of Staff and other medical leadership for governance and management of the medical staff, acting as a liaison between the medical staff and hospital administration. The CMO serves as an ex-officio member of all medical staff committees except the Nominating Committee and regularly attends the Medical Executive, Credentials, Utilization Management, Ethics, and Medical Staff Quality Committee meetings. They also serve as a member of the Physician/Patient Complaint Review Committee, the Patient Care Assessment Committee, and the hospital Quality Committee. Additionally, the CMO participates as a hospital representative in community activities, provides oversight for hospital recruitment activities by coordinating joint recruiting efforts, and participates in developing recruitment plans. This role is responsible for medical staff credentialing activities to ensure efficiency and compliance, supervises hospital and insurance credentialing staff, and staffs the hospital credentialing committee. The CMO provides program support to the Hospitalist Service, IDCS, and Pain Management Program, and oversees the Medical Staff Continuing Medical Education program, including the Medical Library. They participate in long-range and strategic planning for the medical staff and Trustees, and perform other related duties as assigned.
