About The Position

A mission-driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Cincinnati, Ohio is seeking an experienced physician executive to serve as its next Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The Chief Medical Officer will serve as the organization's senior clinical leader, providing strategic direction and oversight for physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CMO will be an integral member of the senior leadership team and will have responsibility for clinical quality, physician leadership, provider performance, credentialing, clinical policies and standards, and physician recruitment and retention. This is an opportunity for a collaborative physician leader who is passionate about community health and wants to have a meaningful impact on both the clinical and strategic direction of an established FQHC serving the Cincinnati community.

Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Ohio, or ability to obtain appropriate Ohio licensure.
Board certification required.
Approximately three to five years of clinical practice experience, preferably within a community health center, FQHC, or ambulatory care environment.
Demonstrated experience in a physician or healthcare leadership position.
Experience leading physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
Experience with clinical quality improvement, provider performance, credentialing, or clinical governance strongly preferred.
Familiarity with the unique clinical and regulatory environment of Federally Qualified Health Centers is highly valued.
Strong physician leadership and relationship-building skills.
Experience developing, mentoring, and engaging physicians and clinical teams.
Knowledge of quality improvement, clinical performance, and regulatory compliance.
Ability to translate clinical priorities into broader organizational strategy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A collaborative leadership style and ability to work effectively across clinical and administrative functions.
Strong judgment and the ability to navigate complex clinical and organizational issues.

Responsibilities

Serve as the organization's senior physician leader and provide direction and leadership to physicians and other clinical staff.
Partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to establish organizational strategy, operational priorities, and clinical goals.
Serve as a liaison between physicians, executive leadership, staff, and external healthcare partners.
Promote strong communication and collaboration among physicians, clinical teams, operations, and other departments.
Chair physician meetings and facilitate other forums designed to strengthen provider engagement and communication.
Represent the organization with community healthcare organizations, providers, government agencies, public health officials, and other external stakeholders.
Prepare and present medical staff reports to the Board of Directors and other organizational leadership groups.
Participate actively in strategic planning and other organization-wide initiatives.
Develop, implement, and oversee quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.
Help ensure clinical services meet or exceed applicable HRSA, regulatory, accreditation, and funding requirements.
Serve in a leadership capacity on the organization's Quality Improvement Committee.
Identify clinical quality and performance issues and develop appropriate corrective action plans.
Review clinically related patient complaints and grievances in accordance with established policies.
Develop and maintain clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, disease-management protocols, performance standards, and outcome measures.
Ensure appropriate implementation of clinical standards across applicable departments and programs.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high-quality patient care.
Develop, implement, and maintain physician performance evaluation processes.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to physicians and other clinical staff.
Support provider accountability while fostering a positive and collaborative medical staff culture.
Work with operational leadership to coordinate physician schedules and ensure appropriate clinical coverage.
Maintain visibility and accessibility to physicians and clinical teams across the organization.
Promote strong relationships between clinical and administrative leadership.
Oversee physician and clinician credentialing processes to ensure compliance with applicable accreditation and payer requirements.
Review credentials of prospective physicians and clinicians and make recommendations regarding appointment.
Oversee periodic physician credential reviews and continued compliance with credentialing standards.
Maintain appropriate clinical governance processes and standards across the organization.
Partner with senior leadership to assess physician workforce needs and develop recruitment strategies.
Participate actively in the recruitment and selection of physicians and other clinical leaders.
Develop and oversee physician orientation and mentoring programs to successfully integrate new providers into the organization.
Support physician engagement, development, and retention.
Partner with leadership on physician compensation structures and periodic reviews to support competitiveness and long-term workforce stability.
Participate in the evaluation of managed care contracts and support contract negotiations when clinical expertise is required.
Contribute to the development of organizational strategy and operational goals.
Participate in grant development and other initiatives supporting the organization's mission and sustainability.
Participate in federal, state, and community meetings where Chief Medical Officer representation is appropriate.
Serve on organizational committees and leadership teams as appropriate.
Bring a clinical perspective to strategic, financial, operational, and organizational decision-making.
Maintain an appropriate level of direct patient care in accordance with the physician's specialty, scope of practice, and organizational needs.
Model high standards of evidence-based, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
Maintain awareness of the day-to-day realities facing providers, clinical staff, and patients through continued clinical practice.
