About The Position

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Information Officer will lead ACFB’s technology strategy and operations, including information security, data and analytics, systems integration, major implementations, and day-to-day IT service delivery. The CIO will ensure reliable, secure, and user-focused technology across the organization and will build and lead a high performing, technically strong IT team. The CIO’s first 18 months will focus on stabilizing and integrating ACFB’s multisystem technology environment, improving responsiveness to employee support needs, and strengthening communication and transparency around outages, delays, and system issues. The CIO will also establish clear IT processes and escalation paths, ensuring the organization experiences consistent, reliable, and predictable technology support. Beyond stabilization, the CIO will define a longterm IT roadmap that strengthens ACFB’s internal technology capabilities and enhances the tools we use to engage external stakeholders—including neighbors, partners, donors, and volunteers. This roadmap will outline the key capabilities ACFB must build, the sequence in which they should be developed, and the organizational investments required to achieve them.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on experience designing, integrating, and managing complex technology ecosystems
  • Strong background in cloud platforms (Azure preferred), including modernization, migration, and security hardening
  • Experience with enterprise systems integration, APIs, data pipelines, and middleware
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, analytics, and business intelligence
  • Experience implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls appropriate for a mission driven organization
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure, applications, and data environments
  • Develops and leads high performing technical teams through coaching, clarity, and accountability
  • Builds strong cross functional partnerships and drives alignment across departments
  • Simplifies complex technical issues into clear, actionable decisions for leaders and staff
  • Builds trust and alignment across departments through transparent communication and collaborative problem-solving

Responsibilities

  • Optimize ACFB’s multi-system technology environment, ensuring systems are integrated, reliable, and aligned to operational needs
  • Improve IT service responsiveness by establishing clear service levels, SOPs, and escalation paths
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent, predictable, and high-quality technology support
  • Strengthen communication norms for outages, delays, and system issues to increase transparency and predictability
  • Support cross-functional projects by ensuring IT is a proactive, collaborative partner to all departments
  • Maximize the mix and optimize the cost of in-house vs. outsourced technology services
  • Define, analyze, and maintain IT performance metrics that reflect service quality and operational reliability
  • Ensure ACFB staff have the technology, tools, and support needed to work efficiently and effectively
  • Provide training and support to ensure new technologies are adopted consistently across the organization
  • Maintain a strong, practical approach to information security appropriate for a nonprofit with sensitive data and community-facing systems
  • Set the long-term digital and data strategy in alignment with ACFB’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities
  • Build datacentric capabilities that connect multiple data sources and generate actionable insights for staff, leadership, and partners
  • Drive user focused digital experiences for clients, partners, donors, and employees
  • Lead, mentor, develop, and hire a high performing team of IT, data, and project management professionals
  • Establish strategic relationships to secure cost-effective and in-kind technology solutions
  • Engage with the Feeding America network and peer food banks to share best practices and bring innovative ideas to ACFB
  • Represent ACFB’s technology vision and needs with partners, donors, and community stakeholders
